Annemarija Linaresa

I was born and raised in a Latvian refugee family in North America. During my career as a medical executive, I was known as a respected health care innovator and home-based palliative care and hospice leader.
I relocated to Latvia in 2022 to found a NGO offering high quality, interdisciplinary in-home palliative and hospice care that meets or exceeds international standards. My personal goal for every Latvian is access to palliative and hospice care regardless of ability to pay.

My personal story and volunteer work introduced me to palliative care. I invested my knowledge, experience and enthusiasm in the Latvia’s first Ministry of Welfare Pilot Project “Home-Based Hospice Care” where I coordinated the work of an interdisciplinary team. I later continued my work in palliative care at the Bikernieku Hospital Palliative Care unit. My goal is to offer every Latvian resident who suffers from a serious, incurable illness high quality professional, dignified and compassionate care.

I was born in Latvia but spent the last two decades studying and working in the USA, where I served as an ordained minister and professional hospital chaplain. After recently returning to Latvia, I continued to offer emotional and spiritual support to anyone touched by life’s changes and losses. My hope is that my life experience and professional training can help develop the field of palliative and hospice care in Latvia.
